Andrea's Review of Faltering by Julia Danes

Series: Faltering, Book 1
Genre: New Adult/Erotica/Romance

Synopsis:

One exotic location, one sex-filled week, one secret to hide ...

Bad luck. Emma's life has been full of it lately. Art history graduate student, Emma Gardner, was looking for adventure, not to fall in love. But when she's abandoned by her best friend and stranded in a foreign country without cash or a passport, she's out of options and doesn't know where to turn. She's ready to give up her dreams and head home.

A challenge. Alec Hawthorne is every woman's fantasy. He's gorgeous, charming, sexy, and used to getting what he wants. So when he spots Emma, alone and in trouble, he can't resist pursuing her.

Consuming desire. Emma didn't plan on finding romance while studying abroad, but that doesn't stop her from being seduced by Alec's intense, demanding charms. The instant, burning attraction that ignites between them is more than either of them bargained for.

Difficult choices. When Emma finds out the secret Alec's been keeping can she learn to trust him again? Is Alec willing to give up everything to be with Emma?

Andrea's Review:

I am a sucker for any story with a naive girl and a sexy, powerful man. Adding the exotic location of Cairo to the story, I’m a goner.

We first meet Emma when she's saying goodbye to her friend and preparing for an adventure of a lifetime. A few bumps in her road to that adventure puts her directly in Alec Hawthorne’s path. Like Emma, I was instantly drawn to Alec. Even in the stifling heat of Cairo, Alec exudes sex and power. He is equally drawn to Emma and her beauty. Offering Emma what is sure to be a life changing week in his world, Alec sets in motion a series of events that will be life changing for both.

I loved the dynamic and ease of Emma and Alec. While their attraction is evident from the beginning, they each seem to bring something out in the other that nobody else has been able to—the ability to just be. To just be him/herself. To just be in the moment. To just be with each other.

When they say something is too good to be true, nothing is more evident than the evolving relationship between Emma and Alec. Each is harboring a secret and a past that complicates their already complicated relationship. While Emma’s secret is a betrayal and hurt bestowed upon her by her first love, Alec’s secret runs much deeper and threatens both of their futures.

I absolutely loved this story. Completely and utterly entranced by the dynamics of these characters, I was torn between cheering them on and fearing they would break each other. Watching them fall in love and each knowing that they shouldn’t was heartbreaking. I felt every emotion between these characters and cannot wait to watch their story unfold.
